Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:
- Albuquerque teen, 17-year-old Xaven Garcia, died this week after running back into his house that was on fire to make sure his family was safe. Garcia saved his dad after waking up to his house filled with flames late Sunday night. Now, he's going to save many other people with his final wish to donate his organs.(KRQE News 13)
- Albuquerque is unveiling a newly completed lighting project. Festoon lighting runs along the Central bridge between Tingley Drive and Sunset Rd. City officials say the goal of the project is to keep the public safe, making the bridge more visible, and some charm heading into Old Town. In total, the project cost around $87,000 to install. (KRQE News 13)
- In January, the New Mexico State legislature will meet and they are expected to put together a crime package focused on tightening up state laws so criminals are held more accountable. (KOAT Albuquerque)
- Early voting has started for the Albuquerque City Council runoff election. Voters in Districts 7 and 9 are heading to the polls to settle who will represent them. (KOB)
- The Rail Trail is the idea of putting a bike trail and walking path next to the railroad tracks - with cool new shops, restaurants, and public art – in the hopes that it will bring some life to a part of Albuquerque that really needs it. City leaders broke ground on Tuesday. (KOB)
