🌱 ABQ Tree Recycling + Candlelight Vigil For 7-Year-Old

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Albuquerque.

Up and at 'em, Albuquerque! Let's get this Tuesday started off right. Here are the most important things going on around Albuquerque today.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 53 Low: 27.

Here are the top 3 stories in Albuquerque today:

  1. From Dec. 27 through Jan. 9, 2022, the Solid Waste Management Department, Parks and Recreation, and PNM will be offering recycling for real Christmas trees for free at three separate locations in Albuquerque. Crews will grind the trees into mulch chips which will then be available to residents at no cost while supplies last. Artificial trees are not accepted. (KRQE News 13)
  2. A candlelight vigil was held for the boy who was killed in a hit-and-run. Dozens gathered at the community-held vigil at North Domingo Baca Park on Sunday night to remember 7-year-old Pronoy Bhattacharya. In addition, another fundraiser was held for Bhattacharya's family on Sunday, which was organized by a group that likes to drive off-road vehicles – the very same one the suspect was driving when he crashed into the young boy. (KOB)
  3. Albuquerque Fire Rescue put out a storage unit fire in northeast Albuquerque on Monday morning. The fire broke out at StorWise Self Storage on Juan Tabo Blvd. near Indian School Rd. in the northeast heights. At this time, it's unclear how the fire started or the extent of the damage.
