Here are the top stories today in Albuquerque:
- The University of New Mexico is disenrolling 286 students from classes for not complying with university's requirement for vaccination against COVID-19. University spokeswoman Cinnamon Blair said the students being disenrolled took no action to comply with the requirement by Friday's deadline. Blair told the Albuquerque Journal that the students facing disenrollment received daily messages for over a month. (KOB)
- Barelas is known as a historic community in Albuquerque, the mural of Maclovia Sanchez de Zamora and the iconic B. Ruppe Drugs sign is hard to miss. The B. Ruppe Drugstore once was the longest continuously operated drugstore in Albuquerque. Everything in the building, before it was sold, was archived at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. The museum is set to be displayed for at least a year. The curator says she will be displaying more items with time. (KOAT New Mexico)
- Nonprofit organizations are increasing their efforts to help get Afghan refugees resettled in New Mexico. With an overabundance of donations from community members, the Islamic Center of New Mexico in Albuquerque is now looking forward to distributing necessary items to Afghan families in need.
