Here are the top stories in Albuquerque today:
- The University of New Mexico greets its biggest freshman class since 2017. All new students who wish to return for in-person learning are required to be fully vaccinated. Not only must students be fully vaccinated – or undergo weekly testing – but many students are also wearing masks. According to UNM Vice President of Enrollment Dan Garcia, the university has seen a 10 percent increase in the freshman class. (KOB)
- Checkr, a software company, chooses Orlando over Albuquerque for the placement of 600 new jobs. In addition to Albuquerque, San Antonio, Texas, was also reportedly in the running. New Mexico has incentive programs, but it is unclear if Checkr pursued them. (Albuquerque Business First)
- A first-degree murder conviction has been upheld for a man who killed another man at a mayoral candidate's campaign office in Albuquerque. (KRQE News 13)
- Crime Stoppers is searching for a suspect in a July 19 southwest Albuquerque shooting.(KRQE News 13)
- Police investigating a homicide that took place on Thursday in southeast Albuquerque. (KOB)
