1. Vibes or value? RRPS board expands UFO archive deal, calls for student impact metrics (sandovalsignpost.com) — Rio Rancho Public Schools just expanded their partnership with the National UFO Historical Records Center, adding a RioTech classroom, a new student club, and more lectures while demanding proof it benefits learning. Board members split over whether the archive offers real educational value, and staff now must develop clear metrics to show its impact on students.
2. Volunteers work to remove litter from Rio Rancho (rrobserver.com subscription) — Hundreds of Rio Rancho residents just turned out across more than a dozen sites to pick up trash and illegal dumping, especially around the arroyo by Broadmoor and Loma Colorado. City staff urge neighbors to use proper disposal and recycling options, warning that code enforcement can trace dumped items and issue fines or even jail time.
3. The Harlem Globetrotters return to Rio Rancho in March (rrobserver.com subscription) — Rio Rancho families can look forward to the Harlem Globetrotters bringing their Rivalry Tour to the Rio Rancho Event Center on March 2, 2027, with interactive on-court fun for fans. Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 2, through the team's official website, giving residents plenty of time to plan a night out.
4. Sandbag locations in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe areas (newsradiokkob.com) — Rio Rancho residents can pick up empty sandbags at any city fire station, with up to 10 bags per household available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The bags are stocked in outdoor benches near each station's front entrance, so you can grab them without going inside, while supplies last.
