• Socorro County officials work to keep community safe after back-to-back storm damage (krqe.com) — Socorro County has declared an emergency after back-to-back storms dumped several inches of rain, washing out roads, damaging utilities, and forcing multiple closures under I-25 and on key county roads. Local officials and deputies are patrolling for flooding, distributing thousands of sandbags, and have opened an evacuation shelter at Finley Gym in the city of Socorro while more rain is expected through Tuesday night.
• Highway closed in Socorro County due to bridge flood damage (koat.com) — Highway 60's bridge just west of Socorro is closed indefinitely after flooding severely damaged its supporting embankment, forcing a lengthy 287-mile detour using several interstates and state highways. With muddy, deteriorating conditions and four-wheel drive recommended, transportation officials urge drivers to avoid the area, respect barricades, and allow significant extra travel time while repairs begin.
• Valencia County deploys swiftwater rescue team to help with flooding (crossroadstoday.com) — Swiftwater rescue crews from Valencia County, including a unique high-water rescue truck, have been deployed to Lincoln County after just assisting flood-stricken communities in Socorro County over the weekend. Their specialized vehicle can drive through deep water to reach stranded residents and is expected to remain on duty through Thursday as dangerous flooding continues.
