• Flood warning issued for Socorro County as rain swells Rio Puerco (koat.com) — Flooding along the Rio Puerco near Bernardo has triggered a National Weather Service flood warning for Socorro County, with minor flood stage expected through early Saturday. Residents around Socorro and nearby communities are urged to avoid riverbanks and never drive through flooded roads, as Highway 60 between Socorro and Magdalena remains closed after storm damage and recent flash floods prompted rescues.
   

• Helicopter surveys to map aquifers (dchieftain.com) — Helicopter surveys using electromagnetic sensors will soon be flying near Socorro to map underground aquifers and improve understanding of local groundwater conditions. The state project aims to fill major data gaps that affect water planning for rural and tribal communities, with initial results expected within months and more detailed interpretations over the next year or so.
