Albany, NY – On the afternoon of July 15th, the Albany Water Department (AWD) will perform maintenance work on a Pressure Reducing Valve located at Washington Avenue and Swan Street. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the day; however, it may cause temporary discolored water this afternoon for customers located near State Street and Eagle Street, including the State Education Building, Capital Building and City Hall.
The discolored water is not harmful, and is caused by the stirring up of sediment within the system. If the discolored water persists for any customers, please contact AWD Dispatch at 518-434-5322.

The work being conducted is scheduled preventative maintenance to maintain consistent water pressures for the water distribution system in downtown Albany.
Much of Albany’s water and sewer infrastructure is over 100 years old. Repairs and upgrades are necessary to guarantee the delivery of clean water and the removal of wastewater and stormwater. Customers’ water and sewer bills help pay for these system improvements, as well as daily operation and maintenance. To keep costs to ratepayers low, AWD has applied for and received over $36 million in grants in recent years.
