Family owned cafe opens on former St. Rose Campus (news10.com) — A new family-run cafe, Cindy B's, has opened inside the former St. Rose Campus athletic center in Albany's Pine Hills neighborhood, part of Albany County's push to revitalize the site. County Executive Dan McCoy says more businesses are coming to help cover unexpected campus repair costs exceeding $10 million, while the cafe aims to become a welcoming community gathering spot.
2. Man arrested on weapons and DWI charges in Albany, NY (newportdispatch.com) — State police say a Schenectady man was stopped on the Thruway in Albany, failed sobriety tests, and was found with a loaded handgun and high‑capacity magazine. He's been arraigned in Albany City Court, is being held in Albany County Jail without bail, and is due back in court on August 20.
3. Free classic film series to kick off in Albany (news10.com) — Free, family-friendly classic movies are coming to West Capitol Park in Albany starting this Wednesday, with screenings on three consecutive Wednesday nights through early September. Films begin at 8 p.m., attendees should bring chairs or blankets, and free popcorn will be provided, with several nearby parking lots offering free parking after 5 p.m.
4. Preview of the Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council public hearing (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Albany residents can attend a state Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council public hearing tonight at The Love Albany Center on Kate Street, with comments accepted only in person. The council, created by Gov. Kathy Hochul, is tracking New York's goal to cut child poverty in half within a decade and will take local testimony from 6–8 p.m.
5. Runway reopens after plane makes emergency landing at Harrisburg International Airport (local21news.com) — An American Eagle flight bound for Albany from Arlington, VA made an emergency landing at Harrisburg International Airport Monday night after smoke was reported in the cabin, briefly closing a runway. All passengers exited safely and were bused to the terminal, and the runway has since reopened while officials continue investigating the incident.
