1. Trans-Siberian Orchestra coming to Albany this winter (news10.com) — Trans-Siberian Orchestra will bring its 'Ghosts of Christmas Eve' tour back to Albany on December 17 with a 7:30 p.m. show at MVP Arena. Tickets for this holiday-season tradition go on sale September 18 through Ticketmaster, giving Capital Region fans another chance to see the rock-meets-classical performance that has become a local favorite.
   

2. Albany woman charged with murdering husband in stabbing (wnyt.com) — An Albany woman has been charged with intentional murder after police say she fatally stabbed her husband inside their Ezra Prentice Homes apartment, and she is being held in Albany County Jail. Officials note this is the third gender-based homicide in Albany County this year, prompting the district attorney to pair law enforcement with survivor advocates to intervene earlier in high-risk cases.
   

3. Albany Community Breaks Ground for Men's Mikvah at Upstate Crossroads (collive.com) — Albany's Jewish community has broken ground on the city's first dedicated men's mikvah, a project they say will serve both local residents and the many travelers who pass through the Capital Region. Organizers have already raised $80,000 toward a $200,000 goal and are asking supporters with ties to Albany or upstate travel to help complete the new facility.
   

4. New York moves to one high school diploma, ends regents passing requirement (wnyt.com) — A major overhaul of New York's graduation requirements, announced from Albany, will replace multiple diploma types with a single state diploma starting with the class of 2028. Regents exams will remain but won't be mandatory for graduation, with schools using broader assessments of student learning that could significantly change how Albany students are taught and evaluated.
   

5. UAlbany President Havidán Rodríguez Named Chair of Middle States Commission on Higher Education (albany.edu) — University at Albany President Havidán Rodríguez has been selected to chair the Middle States Commission on Higher Education starting in 2027, putting an Albany-based leader at the helm of a major accrediting body. His new role will influence how UAlbany and hundreds of other institutions assess educational quality, institutional effectiveness, and long-term improvement.
