ALBANY, NY – Do you know an Albany resident who deserves to be recognized for giving their time and talent to build a better Albany? If so, nominate them for the 4th Annual Henry Johnson Award for Distinguished Community Service, bestowed upon an Albany resident who has made meaningful contributions to our community. Through the award, the City is looking to recognize an individual who has displayed community leadership, dedication or support in any of the following areas: arts and history, social justice, education, or community organizing. The award is given in the spirit of the selflessness exhibited by Sgt. Henry Johnson, Albany’s World War I hero who was posthumously given National Medal of Honor by former President Barack Obama in a 2015 White House ceremony.
