Dover Drag Strip Lives On.
The Legendary Drag Strip in Wingdale,N.Y. (1961 to 1976 )reunites it racers and fans each year at Lebanon Valley Dragway, West Lebanon ,N.Y.

One of the First Drag Strips to open in the Northeast,way back in 1961,was Dover Drag Strip in Wingdale,N.Y. It was the place to be on a Sunday,to watch or race in that golden time of hot rods, rock n roll and the new organized quater mile speed races ,replacing the dangerous street racing. Dover was a trend setter with special high traction asphalt,a timing tower with clocks to record elapsed times and a public address system.The Track soon became a gathering place for racers from Connecticut,southern New York, Long Island, Pennsylvania and even New Jersey.It Hosted Special attractions of the famous racers of the Day. Don Garlits, made 4 appearances, along with stars of the sport like Connie Kalitta, T.V. Tommy Ivo, Tom McKewen and just about all the top Fuel Dragsters,Funny Cars, Jet Cars and special exhibition vehicles. Add to that a weekly field of regular entries averaging 300 cars, and thousands of spectators. Dover predated Lebanon Valley dragway and most other eastern strips of its kind. But Time marches on and in 1976,the owners decuded to shut it down for good.The only remaining pieces that remain are decaying sections of the paved shut down area. Enter in group of passionate Dover veterans that in 2008 put online, a tribute website www.doverdragstrip.com to attempt to keep the memories alive. Boy ,they didn;t ever imagine what would happen.The site Forum page grew dramatically, now today to over 1400 dedicated members ,boasting over 39000 posts in 3600+ topics.With a Gallery of 5000 photos,all Dover from contributors all over the Country. Each Year the gang gets together for an annual revival & reunion Drag Race Event At Lebanon Valley Dragway. 2018 will be their 10th anniversay event .,The 2017 race in Sept, drew over 575 entries for the weekend ,with A Rod & Custom Car Show,Special Nostalgia Race Car Displays and 200 mph Funny Cars.To follow news and updates, see the Dover Drag Strip Facebook page or visit the officail website.
