Islamic Relief USA Launches Card Program for Displaced Families

Cash Card Program Will Help Families Displaced by Apartments Fire

Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA), a nonprofit humanitarian and advocacy organization, in partnership with the New York Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (NYVOAD),Capital Region’s Organizations Active in Disasters (CROAD) and Catholic Charities (The Diocese of Albany), has set up a cash card distribution for residents who suffered damages or displacement following a fire that broke at several row houses on Bradford Street in Albany.

“The objective here is to provide financial support to the individuals and family members whose personal belongings were destroyed as a result of this large fire,” said Syed M. Hassan, public affairs specialist for IRUSA. “We hope this program will help in the recovery, providing some comfort and assistance during a very difficult period.”

The cash cards were distributed last week to displaced families. With the funds, families will be able to purchase necessities. The apartments were home to several resettled refugees, immigrants, and limited-income residents.
