Mayor Sheehan Appoints Peachie L. Jones As New Director Of Albany’s Department Of Human Resources

For Immediate Release ALBANY, NY – Mayor Kathy Sheehan has appointed Peachie L. Jones as the new Director of the City of Albany’s Department of Human Resources, effective today. Ms. Jones has worked as Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Albany’s Law Department for the last three years. In that role, she has advised City senior leadership on labor and employment matters, formed part of the City’s union negotiations team, and represented the City in administrative proceedings.

“The hard-working employees of the Department of Human Resources handle countless employment matters annually for job applicants and nearly 1,400 part- and full-time City staff – all in an effort to ensure the City has a diverse workforce with the skills needed to deliver essential City services and advance strategic initiatives,” said Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan. “Peachie’s talents and extensive experience in labor relations will ensure we can continue the work of her predecessor, Dr. Celia Gonzalez, in making the department’s work even more efficient and responsive to City staff needs. I warmly welcome Peachie to our leadership team.”

Ms. Jones, who has specialized in labor and employment issues since she became an attorney, joined the City of Albany with experience in two states in the field of labor relations and employment law. She has served as Director of the Office for Civil Rights in the Tennessee’s Department of Education and most recently as counsel for the New York State Department of Labor.

Ms. Jones received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and her law degree from Brigham Young University.
