Alice in Hell's Kitchen

About the new musical Alice By Heart

It's 1941 London during the WWII blitz. Alice Spencer and her friend Alfred Hallam are among those seeking refuge in an abandoned underground station. The friends pass the days reading aloud from their favorite book, Alice in Wonderland.

On learning that Alfred has contracted tuberculosis and is not expected to survive, Alice decides that the best solution is for the pair to escape into their favorite book. This irritates the resident nurse who grabs the book and tears out the pages. Alice, defiantly, announces that this doesn't matter since she knows the story by heart.

From there on, we find ourselves in Alice's somewhat memorized Wonderland in which the shelter residents become Wonderland characters, led by Alice as Alice and Alfred as The White Rabbit.

Alice discovers that she has been outgrowing the story as well as blossoming into a young lady with more than friends feelings for Alfred who struggles to maintain his place as the Rabbit in the story.

The Wonderland folk drift between fascination with the new twists in the tale and indignation over Alice's changes.

The superb songs by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater make this highly enjoyable theater.

The energetic cast led by Mia Delina as Alice and Colton Ryan as Alfred/White Rabbit are unforgettable.

Notable in the ensemble is Noah Galvin (Kenny in The Real O'Neals) as The Dutchess (I kid you not) and others.

The show is currently running at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater at 511 W 52.
