Richard Melnick, former GAHS President and Board Member, and author, documents the year 1776 in Long Island City and its influence on both the Revolutionary War and the area today. 
Natalia, the SawLady, Paruz will honor all those who sacrificed their lives for freedom in the Revolutionary War by ringing Taps on the bells.

Participants visit sites in Battery Park, the Financial District, Tribeca, the Civic Center, and Chinatown to learn how disease, faith, and policy shaped the city’s development. From colonial churchyards to early cemeteries and prison sites, the tour offers a detailed look at how New York’s attitudes toward mortality helped define its growth.
