LIC Demolition Plans Could Bring New Apartments
A former neighborhood grocery store could make way for a new development near major subway lines in Queens.
LONG ISLAND CITY— A developer plans to build a 15-story mixed-use building with 94 apartments at 44-61 21st St., between 44th Road and 45th Avenue, according to permits filed with the New York City Department of Buildings.
The proposed 165-foot building would span 108,308 square feet, including 79,778 square feet of residential space and 28,530 square feet of commercial space.
The site, near the Court Square-23rd Street station, previously housed Palace Chicken and Grill before operating as a Key Food supermarket, which closed in October 2025.
