LIC Man Charged With City's First Murder Of 2020, Police Say

A Queensbridge Houses resident was arrested in connection with the city's first murder of 2020, which unfolded New Year's Day in The Bronx.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — A Queensbridge Houses resident was arrested Tuesday in connection with the city's first murder of 2020, the NYPD announced.

Ryan Chambers, 34, stands accused of murder for the New Year's Day slaying of 29-year-old man Rahkeem Jennings inside his Bronx River Houses apartment, according to the police.

It was the year's first killing, the New York Daily News reported.

Jennings had been shot in the neck and the head when first responders found him in his East 174th Street apartment about 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, police said. By that time, he couldn't be saved.

Detectives suspected that the two men had been caught in a love triangle with a woman, according to the Daily News.

Chambers was previously arrested in connection with a robbery in Queens and spent three years in prison, law enforcement sources told the Daily News.
