Things Happen

It began for me when I saw a tweet from actor Matt Shively (whom you may remember as Kenny's older brother on The Real O'Neals). He was irate over the guy in the pic he had also posted. This pic, which was all over Twitter yesterday depicted a group of students harassing a veteran named Nathan Phillips who is an Omaha Elder.

The trick for me was in trying to figure out what really happened. The offending photo is part of an offending video clip which, thigh be told, does not make anything clear.

A group of students from Covington Catholic High School in Covington My were in DC for Pro Life rally. Phillips was there performing in part of a Native American ceremony (also for Pro Life? We don't really know).

The story goes that the students harassed and made fun of him, though that really isn't apparent in the supplied video clips unless you read it between the lines.

Today a different story is told in which some sort of scuffle took place among the students which Phillips attempted to calm down and, in the long run, everyone was cool and singing together. That sits a little better with me.
