12 Long Island Communities Rank Among Best Beach Towns In US

LONG ISLAND, NY - All Long Islanders know how great living by the local beaches are -- and apparently WalletHub does too.

The website recently listed a total of 12 Long Island towns among the best beach towns in the U.S.

WalletHub released the list of the best beach communities split by towns located by the ocean and by lakes.

Among the towns located by the ocean, Long Island dominated the list of the top towns in the country.

• Port Washington - 80
• Great Neck - 99
• Glen Cove - 120
• Wantagh - 129
• Massapequa - 143
• Long Beach - 148
• Babylon - 154
• Stony Brook - 155
• Patchogue - 156
• Mount Sinai - 157
• Hampton Bays - 160
• Shirley - 161

The towns were all ranked based on criteria such as housing costs, share of for-sale waterfront homes and quality of beach water.

Lahaina, Hawaii took the top spot but Florida had the most towns make the top 10. The sunshine state had a total of 5 beach communities in the top 10 including: Naples (2), Sarasota (3), St. Augustine (5) Boca Raton (7) and Key West (10).
