3rd Annual Home Holiday Decorating Contest: What You Need To Know

BABYLON VILLAGE, NY - Do you think your home has the best decorations on the block? Well, Babylon Village can be the judge of that during the third annual Home Holiday Decorating Contest taking place next week.

The contest is free and open to all residents living within boundaries of the Village of Babylon. There will be three awards handed out in the following categories: best holiday spirit, best lawn display and best animation.

Applications must be sent in by Sunday, December 15 at 12 p.m. Residents can apply via online here. Judging will take place on Monday, December 16 between 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The winner will be announced on Friday, December 20 by 5 p.m.

Judging criteria will include:

• unique design and creative use of lights/decorations
• story-line or theme
• display and placement of decorations, animated objects, etc.
• overall presentations

Since the judging will be done from outside the homes, the contest only applies to outside decorations only, including decorations in windows that are visible from outside. Judging will be based on "curb appeal" as viewed from the street only. Judges will not enter the property to view back or side yards.

Prizes include a sign for your lawn, a special Babylon Beautification Society tree ornament and gift certificates from Babylon Village Merchants.
