55 NY Companies Make New Fortune 500 List
The Empire State is home to the most Fortune 500 companies in the nation.

Fortune Magazine just released its exclusive Fortune 500 list for the 2015 fiscal year and New York is well represented with 55 companies on the list.
That's the most of any state in the country. California and Texas both tie for No. 2 with 51 companies each on the list.
WalMart led the overall list with sales of $482.1 billion. The top New York company on the list is Verizon, which tallied $131.6 billion in revenues in 2015.
The Monday release of information marked the 62nd annual list, Fortune said. The 500 companies named make up two-thirds of the United States’ gross domestic product (GDP), the company said.
According to the company’s methodology, businesses are ranked based on total revenues for their respective fiscal years and file financial statements with a government agency.
