WEST BABYLON, NY — Students at Tooker Avenue Elementary School took part in the global Hour of AI initiative in December, gaining hands-on experience with computer science and artificial intelligence through interactive classroom lessons.

The Hour of AI, formerly known as the Hour of Code, is a worldwide event incorporated into the West Babylon School District’s library curriculum. The initiative introduces students to foundational concepts in coding and artificial intelligence while encouraging creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking.

According to CSforALL, the nonprofit organization leading the Hour of AI alongside Code.org, the goal of the program is for all students to “become confident, creative problem-solvers — using AI and building it.”

Throughout the experience, Tooker students participated in a mix of unplugged and technology-based coding activities designed to show how computer science and artificial intelligence are part of everyday life. The lessons helped students better understand how technology can be used to solve problems and think creatively in an increasingly digital world.

After completing the Hour of AI activities and meeting their coding goals, students earned certificates and stickers to celebrate their accomplishments.

The initiative reflects West Babylon’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation, digital literacy, and problem-solving skills in all learners.
