Babylon Town Honors 9 Suffolk Officers For Saving Child’s Life

The officers’ quick response helped restore the child’s pulse before the child was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, town officials say.

LINDENHURST, NY — Nine Suffolk County police officers were honored by the Babylon Town Board for their life-saving response to a pediatric cardiac arrest emergency in West Babylon on Easter Sunday, town officials said.

The officers were recognized during a recent Town Board meeting for their professionalism, teamwork and swift response during a medical emergency involving a 4-year-old child.

Town officials said the coordinated efforts of responding officers and emergency medical personnel helped restore the child’s pulse before the child was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital.

The officers honored were Officer Ayrton Abril, Officer Alper Bari, Officer Branden Casco, Officer Brendan Greaney, Officer Kenneth Read, Officer Christopher Tocco, Lieutenant Salvatore Gigante, Sergeant Brandon Picarillo and Officer Frank Pristera.

“These officers demonstrated the very best of law enforcement,” said Councilman Terrence McSweeney, chairman of the town’s Public Safety Committee. “Their training, professionalism, teamwork, and ability to remain calm under pressure helped save the life of a four-year-old child. We are grateful for their service and proud to recognize their heroic actions on behalf of the residents of the Town of Babylon.”

The Town Board presented each officer with a proclamation recognizing their dedication to public service and their life-saving efforts.

“When a family faced one of the most frightening moments imaginable, these officers answered the call and made a difference,” Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer said. “Their quick actions and unwavering commitment to protecting our residents exemplify the highest standards of public service.”
