WEST BABYLON, NY — A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon Tuesday night, Suffolk County police said.
The man was walking in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway, between exits 37 and 38, when he was struck by a 2014 Kia Optima at about 8:30 p.m., police said.
The pedestrian, whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
The driver of the Kia, a 50-year-old East Islip woman, was not injured.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating the crash and are asking anyone with information to call 631-854-8152.
