Swimming Advisory Issued At 3 Babylon Beaches After Heavy Rain

BABYLON, NY — Suffolk County health officials are advising against swimming at three Town of Babylon beaches following heavy rainfall.

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services said the rainfall-related advisory was issued because bacteria levels at the affected beaches could exceed New York State standards.

The affected beaches are:

Amityville Village Beach, Amityville
Tanner Park, Copiague
Venetian Shores Beach, West Babylon

The beaches are in areas that can be heavily influenced by stormwater runoff, according to health officials.

Officials recommend suspending swimming and other water contact until the waters have been flushed by two successive tidal cycles, or at least 24 hours after the rain ends.

The advisory is expected to be lifted Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 a.m.
