Babylon Cancels North Amityville Fire Department Contract

After a third party investigation found delayed response times, Babylon canceled their contract with the fire department, reports indicate.

BABYLON, NY — North Amityville Fire Department will no longer be serving the Town of Babylon.

According to News12, the Town of Babylon canceled its contract with the fire department on Friday after a third party human resources consultant found staff shortages and delays in response times that could impact residents' safety.

Officials said that, for example, a call for a woman with difficulty breathing took more than an hour on Jan. 5.

All emergency calls will be currently be assigned to to the Copiague, North Lindenhurst and Amityville fire departments along with the East Farmingdale Fire Co., Supervisor Schaffer told Newsday.

Schaffer also told News12 that the problems at the fire department began several years ago when allegations of financial mismanagement, sexual harassment and violence were leveled against the fire company's board members and other members.
