Babylon High School Hosts 2019 Homecoming

BABYLON, NY - Babylon students, staff and community members enjoyed a day of festivities during the annual homecoming event earlier this month. The day kicked off with the third annual Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame celebration at Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s Rowe Hall.

A total of three new members, U.S. Air Force Sgt. Matthew Caruso (Air Force Chief Master Sergeant/Class of ’87), the late Gilbert Hanse (Babylon mayor/Class of ’32) and David Lovalvo (Founder/President/CEO of The Global Foundation for Ocean Exploration/Class of ‘72) were inducted at the ceremony.

Afterwards, the annual homecoming parade kicked off and made its way through the decorative streets of Babylon Village.

The parade include special floats designed by each grade level to represent a different season. At halftime, the sophomore class was recognized with the best float award for their depiction of the winter season.

Following the parade, the Panthers, played against the Greenport/Southold/Mattituck High School’s combined football team at the Walter F. Williams Field.

Babylon started strong and eventually cruised to a decisive 40-0 victory by the time the buzzer rang at the end of the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Luke Lassen was 4-for-5 for 104 yards and two passing touchdowns to lead the way, while Joe Young threw a touchdown pass as well.

During the game and at halftime, the Babylon cheerleaders dazzled the crowd with their performance.

In addition, this year’s hall of fame inductees were recognized in front of the attendees, as was the homecoming court which included students Anthony Rotondaro and Hannah Bushery who were named homecoming king and queen, respectively.
