Babylon Junior-Senior High School Welcomes New Administrators

This new school year, the Babylon Junior-Senior High School welcomed two new administrators, one new to the district and one familiar face.

Following years of teaching earth science and AP environmental science at Glen Cove High School, Matthew S. Ryan has been appointed assistant principal of the junior-senior high school.

“I am looking forward to working with Babylon’s exceptional group of parents, students and staff,” Ryan said. “I feel honored and elated to be part of such a wonderful community that is dedicated to school-wide academic excellence.”

In addition to teaching, Ryan supervised night and summer school in Glen Cove, coordinated summer Regents testing and coached various junior high school sports. Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and geological natural resources and a master’s degree in earth science adolescent education from Binghamton University. He also has a certificate of advanced graduate studies from Queens College.

Teresa Collins, an English teacher at the junior-senior high school since 1998, has been promoted to the new director of English Language Arts.

“As the new director of ELA, I am looking forward to working collaboratively with colleagues and engaging in professional dialogue to meet the challenges presented by the Common Core, including state testing and college and career readiness for all 21st century learners,” Collins said.

Collins received her undergraduate degree in both English and psychology and her master’s degree in secondary education from Hofstra University. In addition, she holds a school district administrator degree from LIU Post.
