Babylon Memorial 3rd Graders Take Part in Spooky Writing Activities

Students Tasked With Coming up With Descriptive Language

Babylon Memorial Grade School students in Ms. Kennedy’s 3rd grade class took part in spooky, interactive writing activities during the week leading up to Halloween.

The students were tasked with coming up with adjectives to describe what a visitor to a haunted house would see, hear, smell, taste and touch. They then designed their own haunted houses to match the descriptions.

In a separate writing activity, the 3rd graders created a “graveyard of dull words.” As part of the activity, the students each made a tombstone for a common, or “dull,” word, and then came up with more lively and descriptive synonyms to list them as “surviving loved ones.” Both activities helped the students expand their vocabulary while taking part in spooky Halloween festivities.
