The Babylon Board of Education honored members of the Babylon Strong volunteer group at its January meeting for the work the group has done helping and empowering the wider Babylon community.

Babylon Strong is a grassroots volunteer organization that formed during the Covid-19 crisis to help neighbors in need. The volunteers work to provide social-emotional, financial and food support for community members who may be facing a crisis. They do this through fundraising, food collections, community mobilization and also spending time with those who might be ailing. Babylon Strong executive board members Cathryn McAleavey, Melissa Muma, Kara Darrell, Ingrid Archaga, Shvonne Romanitch and Jennifer Parendo were present to receive the recognition for their efforts.

“These volunteers stepped up during a difficult time to help their neighbors in need,” said Superintendent of Schools Carisa Manza. “They are truly the definition of Babylon Strong, and we wanted to recognize them for their continued commitment to the Babylon community.”
