Babylon Junior-Senior High School Senior Matthew Heffer was named a Commended Student in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Competition this year. Of the approximate 1.3 million students who applied for the program this year, Matthew was one of just 34,000 selected.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation seeks to identify academically talented students throughout the United States. Students are selected based on their outstanding academic records and participation in school activities, as well as their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“Matthew has shown a deep dedication in the classroom and to his academic career,” said Babylon High School Principal Al Cirone. “To be recognized in the National Merit Scholarship Competition is a great honor that few students are able to achieve. We are so proud of him.”
