Babylon Students Enjoy Baking, Help Local Soup Kitchen
Students from the Grade and Elementary Schools donate banana bread to local soup kitchen.
Kelly Arcoleo’s fourth-grade students from Babylon Memorial Grade School joined Anne Morris’ first-graders from Babylon Elementary School on December 18th for a baking buddy project to benefit those less fortunate in the Babylon community.
Mrs. Arcoleo opened the program by reading Uncle Willie and the Soup Kitchen to the students, in an effort to provide the children with a better understanding of what a soup kitchen is and why people go there. Later in the event, students baked loaves of banana bread that were donated to Babylon’s Cross of Christ Lutheran Church soup kitchen.

Besides learning the importance of helping others, both age groups benefited from the program in other key areas.
“The fourth-graders learned leadership skills and set a great example for the younger students,” Arcoleo said. “It provided a great opportunity to give the first-graders some familiarity with the grade school, as they will be students here in the near future.”
