Babylon Woman Injured After Falling Off Paddle Board

The 58-year-old was impaled on an anchor while paddle boarding on Tuesday night.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A Babylon woman fell off her paddle board and was impaled on an anchor in the Peconic Bay Tuesday night, according to Southold Town Police.

Brenda Mayo, 58, fell from the paddle board off Nassau Point in Cutchogue and was impaled on a mushroom mooring anchor that was submerged beneath the surface of the water, about 50 feet from shore at about 6:50 p.m., police said.

The Cutchogue Fire Department and Southold Town police responded.

Mayo suffered an injury to her leg that required firefighters to utilize extrication tools to remove her from the water, police said.

She was transported by a Cutchogue Fire Department vessel to the New Suffolk boat ramp where she was transferred to an ambulance for transport to a waiting Suffolk County Police medivac helicopter that flew her to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, police said.
