Bayman Statue Arrives In Babylon
The statue arrived after its long journey from California in order to prepare to settle permanently in Babylon Village.

BABYLON, NY - The Bayman has finally arrived in Babylon.
In 2016, local residents proposed a statue in honor of the Long Island baymen who harvested out of the Great South Bay way back in the day.
As a result, the Babylon Beautification Society spearheaded the project and hired sculptor Jose Fernandez to created a 7-foot statue of one of the baymen to stand at the east side of the Carll's River Basin.

In December, Fernandez completed the statue with the Babylon-based company Greenman-Pedersen designing and engineering the masonry and stone base.
However the statue was being constructed in California until it finally arrived in town on Friday.

In addition, work has begun on the site for the statue.
The cobblestone curbs have been installed as well as new water line for the plantings and landscaping being designed by Ray Bell and electric just in case the solar lights aren’t enough.
"The focal point will be the sculpture itself, informational boards with early history, the peak years of the 1970s, the future of our Bay will be around back, via our brick walkway," a post on the Babylon Bayman Facebook page reads.
Residents will still have to wait a little while longer for the official unveiling however.
The unveiling is scheduled for July 1.
