Betty White Challenge Raises $5K For Babylon Animal Shelter

The Town of Babylon Animal Shelter received about $5,000 in donations as a result of the "Betty White Challenge."

BABYLON, NY — Babylon residents recently honored Betty White in a generous way.

The Town of Babylon Animal Shelter received about $5,000 in donations earlier this month, as an outcome of the national "Betty White Challenge."

According to a press release, the shelter also received a substantial amount of goods, such as chew toys, leashes, collars, dog food, cat food, treats for dogs, treats for cats, and beds.

“Thanks to the Betty White Challenge, the Babylon Animal Shelter took in so many donations in such a short period of time, we were amazed and overjoyed," said Animal Shelter Director Chris Elton.

The national challenge was held on what would have been White's 100th birthday, and encouraged fans to donate $5 to animal shelters in her name.

The actress and animal activist died on December 31, 2021, six days after suffering a stroke, officials said.

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Councilmen Terence McSweeney and DuWayne Gregory recently gathered with Elton and the Town’s companion dog Trigger to celebrate the outstanding results of the challenge.

“On behalf of the Babylon Town Board and all of our friends at the Animal Shelter, thank you to the residents of Babylon who once again demonstrated their tremendous generosity by participating in this historical challenge in memory of Betty White,” said Schaffer.
