High School Thespians Put Modern Spin on Ancient Greek Tragedy with Dramedy Production of Agatha Rex
Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s theater troupe took the school community to Thebes High School this year with the group’s winter play production of Agatha Rex.
Agatha Rex is set in a modern-day high school, where the eponymous Agatha Rex is a headstrong student council president who stands up for her beliefs despite the consequences. In this humorous dramedy, Agatha defends a fellow student who has been wrongly punished and faces possible expulsion herself. The play is an adaptation of the ancient Greek tragedy, Antigone.
The play starred Anna Demspey as Agatha Rex, Allie Manetta as Irene Rex, Madison De Sena as Elliot Rex, Theo Hannon as Paul Rex, Brady Cunneen as Harry Creon, Kat Gonzalez as Dr. Creon, Jamisyn Cerny as Eunice, Zoey Hildebrant as Joanne, Felix Hannigan as Jason, Joe Gonzalez as Herman, Olivia Giaramita as Diana, Cassie Blayne as Helen, Brandon Gorgone as Art. It was directed by Rebecca Olivieri.
