Election Guide 2011: County, Town Races The Focus For Voters

The polls open at 6 a.m. Tuesday. Here's a guide to local contenders running for county executive, legislature, town supervisor and town council seats.

Here is a run-down of the candidates who matter to Babylon Village and West Babylon residents when it comes to voting on Tuesday.

Suffolk County Executive
(4-year term)

, Democrat: 42, currently Babylon Town Supervisor having served since 2001. Lives in West Babylon, served on town board from 1997 to 2001.

, Republican: 67, Suffolk County treasurer since 2005 after serving as a legislator for 12 years. Lives in West Islip.

Incumbent Republican Steve Levy is not seeking re-election.

Suffolk County Legislature: 14th District
(two-year term)

, Democrat (incumbent): 60, Babylon Village resident, first elected in 2005.

Republican Challenger : 70, lives in Lindenhurst.

Green Party Candidate Cesar Malago: 73, West Babylon resident.

Babylon Town Council (four-year term)

Two seats, four candidates. Current councilperson Ellen McVeety is not seeking re-election.

Incumbent Democrat : 46, Copiague resident, first elected in 2006. Due to deploy as Army Reservist in January. If elected McVeety would temporarily fill her seat.

Democrat Tom Donnelly: 45, Deer Park resident, member of town planning board.

Republican : 53, lives in Babylon Village, lost bid for town board seat in 2005.

Republican : 45, North Babylon resident, lost bid for legislator seat in 2009.
