FBI Investigates Explosion On LI Beach That Left Crater
The FBI is investigating a detonation that occurred off the coast of Babylon on Sunday and left a crater, police say.

BABYLON, NY — The FBI is investigating an explosion that occurred off the coast of Babylon on Sunday, Suffolk County Police said.
Police told Patch Tuesday that the FBI is currently "assisting the SCPD" in their own investigation.
An unidentified device detonated on the coast of Fox Island at about 11 a.m.; it is believed to have created a 4-feet wide by 2-feet deep crater, police said. Residents from Lindenhurst to as far north at Huntington reported that they heard a loud boom or felt their home shake at the time of the explosion.

The FBI will determine whether terrorism was involved, Suffolk Police told Newsday.
Suffolk County Police are searching for the operator of a vessel seen leaving the area at the time of the detonation, police said. The boat is described as having stripes.
