Forest Avenue Students Off With Sweet Start to School Year
Kindergarteners explore their new surroundings with a fun twist.

In an effort to familiarize themselves with staff and become acclimated to their new surroundings, Forest Avenue's kindergarten students took part in a unique, annual first-day-of-school event by reading the traditional tale “The Gingerbread Man.”
Upon completion of the story, students were presented with their own class gingerbread cookie cakes fashioned after the edible main character. Much to the surprise of the young students, their gingerbread men fled the classrooms while students were otherwise engaged, leaving behind a note that included the familiar line, "Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"
During the first days of the school year, kindergarten classes explored the building in search of their gingerbread man, meeting the instructional staff as well as other staff members along the way. The search came to a close when the students found their gingerbread friend sitting in the principal's office.
