Fundraiser Started In Honor Of Delivery Driver Killed In Crash
A local pizzeria is looking to help the family of a beloved local delivery driver who was killed in a car crash last week.

BABYLON, NY — The Babylon community has come together to raise over $10,000 for the family of a longtime pizza delivery driver who was killed in a crash last week. On Wednesday, 49-year-old Carlos Mora, of Babylon, was making a delivery for Gino's Pizza of Babylon on 258 Deer Park Avenue when he was killed in a head-on crash involving a driver with a suspended license in West Babylon.
In response, the local pizzeria started an online fundraiser on GoFundMe to help the family of their beloved employee, who had worked at the business for since 2008.
"Anyone who has ordered Gino's pizza in the last 12 years would have likely had an order delivered by Carlos. When we were all hunkered down during Superstorm Sandy, Carlos continued to deliver food to people's homes, helping them feel a sense of normalcy," the GoFundMe read.

"When we were all stuck inside for snow days, Carlos delivered a warm meal with a smile. And during this pandemic, as we are all required to stay home and safe, Carlos continued to work hard, bringing us our family dinners while limiting our exposure to the virus. We are so grateful to have known Carlos, a man who brought so much joy to those he worked with, knew and happened to meet during his deliveries. He will always be remembered for his infectious smile, uplifting personality and determination to make people in his community happy. He will truly be missed by us all."

The goal was to raise a total of $5,000 for Mora's family in order to help "alleviate some of the financial burden they are facing" as a result of his sudden passing. The business also stated that it would match each dollar up to the first $2,500 raised. The page has raised double the expected amount, totaling $10,340 in donations as of Tuesday.
"Carlos took care of us for more than a decade. It is time for us to take care of him," the page read.
