Girls Soccer Teams Raises Money for Fellow Student

The West Babylon Girls Soccer Teams helped raise money for a Kings Park student diagnosed with cancer.

The West Babylon Senior High School girls soccer teams came together and showed their support for a fellow soccer player through an act of kindness on the field.

Lauren Lenardi, a student-athlete from Kings Park, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer two years ago and is no longer capable of playing soccer or attending school. Due to her illness and treatment, Lenardi was unable to have a Sweet Sixteen Party. The Kings Park soccer program made the decision to dedicate the game against West Babylon to Lauren, as the game was being held on her birthday.

When the West Babylon varsity and junior varsity teams were made aware of the plan, they also agreed to each make a small donation to the Love for Lauren organization, which is aimed at alleviating some of the financial strain of Lauren’s treatment.

The West Babylon girls helped raise over $650. The donation was presented to Lauren during a halftime birthday celebration that included cake and a soccer-themed birthday card designed by West Babylon art teacher James Fulton and signed by every member of the junior varsity and varsity teams.
