BABYLON, NY — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

Deborah Thorman-Yusko, a St Joseph food pantry volunteer, nominated three Babylon kids she met at a recent food drive as a local Hometown Hero. Thorman-Yusko wanted to recognize Kate, Eloise and Sam Garvey for starting their food drive when school closed in March.

According to Thorman-Yusko, the three have surpassed their original goal of raising one ton of food for St Joseph's church food pantry and are now heading toward three tons of food.

"Young kids using their time and talent to help others in this time of need should be recognized and encouraged," she said.

Thank you for all that you do, Kate, Eloise and Sam Garvey!
