Kids Who Code
South Bay Elementary students take part in a before school enrichment activity run by School Media Specialist Kara Levy.
Preparing students for the 21st Century is an important goal in the West Babylon School District, as seen in a recent South Bay Elementary School technology directive. Half of the student population signed up to participate in The Hour of Code, a before school enrichment activity run by School Media Specialist Kara Levy.
The Hour of Code is also a worldwide initiative to promote interest in the computer sciences, specifically girls, as there is a gender gap in the field. More than 150 students in grades K-5 are now more familiar with computer programming, a skill they will utilize through lifelong learning.
