Kindness Counts at Babylon Elementary

Award-winning storyteller, recording artist, actor and author LuAnn Adams visited the school last week.

Continuing its kindness initiative, which began last school year, Babylon Elementary School welcomed award-winning storyteller, recording artist, actor and author LuAnn Adams for a kickoff assembly on Sept. 12.

During the PTA-sponsored assembly program, entitled “Celebratin’ Children,” Adams used puppets and instruments to tell folk tales from around the world featuring inspirational, can-do kids.

“The children in these tales take obstacles and make them opportunities,” Adams said.

The Kindness Counts initiative encourages and celebrates acts of kindness within the school on a daily basis. As part of the campaign, students will take the kindness pledge and students and staff will record acts of kindness on leaves, which will be displayed on the kindness tree and read over the loudspeaker.

“Every staff member also has a ‘caught being kind’ sticker that they will give out when they notice a random act of kindness by a student,” Principal Jessica Kemler added.
