Main Roads Cleared After First Snowfall In Babylon Village

Town Supervisor Richard Schaffer​ announced Friday that the town's main roads are 100 percent cleared of snow.

BABYLON, NY — As Long Island received its first snowfall of the year, many towns made preparations to ensure the safety of its residents.

The Town of Babylon, which received six to eight inches of snow, has now completely cleared its main roads, a spokesperson said. Since 3 a.m. Friday, Babylon Department of Public Works clearing crews were on the roads with more than 110 pieces of equipment in use.

Sanitation pickup also was able to proceed as usual Friday without interruption, and the focus shifted to tertiary roads and cleaning up side streets.

Crews will be salting throughout the afternoon and evening to prevent refreeze as temperatures drop Friday night. Town Supervisor Richard Schaffer encouraged drivers to exercise caution throughout the day and overnight into Saturday.
