SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A Deer Park man was found guilty of selling fentanyl-laced pills while claiming they were oxycodone, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced Friday.

Anthony Alexander, 57, of Deer Park, sold the pills to an undercover police officer, prosecutors said. He faces 30 years in prison.

"This defendant showed an absolute disregard for public safety by brazenly using the Babylon Train Station as his marketplace to sell highly addictive and dangerous opioids, as found by the jury," Tierney said. "These pills were particularly dangerous because the defendant was selling them without disclosing that they contained fentanyl. Thanks to our Heroin Task Force, this dangerous drug purveyor’s illegal entrepreneurship venture was shut down and now he’s going to prison."

Trial evidence found that in January 2022, during an investigation into Alexander’s narcotic dealings, a DA's office investigator contacted Alexander and arranged to purchase oxycodone pills, prosecutors said. Alexander sold the undercover officer pills on Jan. 13, 2022, and Jan. 18, 2022, at the Babylon train station, officials said.

Testing found the pills were fentanyl, not oxycodone, authorities said.

Alexander was arrested at the train station on Jan. 20, 2022, the DA said. Upon his arrest, he was found with metal knuckles and pills including oxycodone, alprazolam, and suboxone films, investigators said.

Alexander was convicted Thursday on three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.

He is due back in court on May 3 for sentencing. He is represented by Chris Cassar.
