Search Continues For Boater Who Went Missing in Great South Bay
Andrew Weis was en route to Anchorage Yacht Club from Gilgo Beach when he went missing Saturday.
The U.S. Coast Guard, Suffolk Police and local fire departments are continuing their search for 48-year-old Andrew Weis, the Lindenhurst man who went missing in the Great South Bay on Saturday.
Authorities say Weis left Gilgo Beach at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday en route to Anchorage Yacht Club in Lindenhurst. Police say Weis was aboard his 13-foot boat. The Coast Guard says it was an 8-foot white and gray dinghy.
Weis’ boat was recovered Sunday morning in the Great South Bay off Venetian Shores Park in Lindenhurst.

Based on damage to the boat, detectives believe Weis was involved in a boating accident, police said.
Weis was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, beige shorts and a white hat. He is an experienced boater and a strong swimmer who had a life jacket on board, said the Coast Guard, which has issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to all mariners along the New York coast.

Searching for Weis are:
- A Coast Guard Station Fire Island Smallboat crew
- A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod
- Babylon Fire Department crews
- West Babylon Fire Department crews
- Suffolk Police marine and air crews
