Man Shot During 'Large Outdoor Party' in West Babylon

BREAKING: It happened late Saturday night. A police officer directing traffic at the scene of the shooting was also struck by a car.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the back late Saturday night during a large outdoor party in West Babylon, Suffolk Police said.

It happened in the vicinity of 43 Cortland St. at about 11:40 p.m. The man who was shot was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he underwent and appears to be in stable condition, police said.

No arrests have been made and the incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

About 20 minutes after the shooting, a First Precinct police officer was struck by a car while he was directing traffic at the scene of the shooting. The officer was transported to an area hospital with a leg injury. No charges will be filed against the driver of the vehicle.
