BABYLON VILLAGE, NY - A new donut shop recently opened in Babylon Village.
West Babylon natives and childhood friends John Cilluffo and Ray Bader opened Surf Donuts on 10 Grove Street in April.
The two decided to open the west coast-inspired shop after seeing the trend in specialty donut shops in other parts of the country.

The two have traveled to other similar businesses in places like Las Vegas, California and Florida for inspiration before deciding to bring their expertise near their Long Island hometown.
The business offers unique and colorful flavors such as the french toast, cannoli cream, Fruity pebbles, Nutella, peanut butter and jelly, cookie dough and much more. They also do custom orders for special occasions.

"Basically anything someone wants we can make," Cilluffo said. "We get a lot of specialty orders, especially with stuffed donuts."
Surf Donuts offers about 10 to 12 different flavors every day, which are constantly rotated to include new creations.
So far, the most popular have been the french toast. They also did special donuts for Memorial Day which included red, white and blue frosting with sprinkles.
Besides the toppings, one thing that makes this donut shop stand out has been the way they make the donut. While some shops make the "cake" type donuts, Surf Donuts makes "yeast" type donuts, making them lighter and fluffier.
The reception from the local residents has been great, according to Cilluffo.
"It's a close knit community and I've noticed some of the residents and business owners all try to patronize each other which is a great thing," he said.
The business is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
